The reunion of the seminal punk band Black Flag just took a turn for the strange after guitarist/bandleader Greg Ginn fired singer Ron Reyes onstage during a show in Australia on November 24th. Professional skateboarder Mike Vallely filled in for Reyes for the final songs at the show, but there is no word as to whether Vallely will remain singer for the band.
In a post on his Facebook page, Reyes confirmed his departure from the band while also taking the time to voice his frustrations with Ginn’s work ethic and his ongoing war with FLAG, the Black Flag tribute band started by Ginn’s former bandmates Keith Morris and Chuck Dukowski. Earlier this year, Ginn sued the members of FLAG and former lead singer Henry Rollins (who was not involved with any reunion of Black Flag) over the use of the band’s name and logos.
Black Flag have a new album, What The…?, due out on SST Records later this year. You can read our conversation with Henry Rollins in the Influences section of this issue of Elmore Magazine.
