Music lost one of its great, unique voices when Jason Molina passed away earlier this year at the all-too-young age of 39. Dozens of tributes have already come out, but a special one will be coming next year from the people who played with him and knew him best as a musician and as a person. Members of Molina’s old bands – Songs: Ohia and Magnolia Electric Co. – will embark on a short tour celebrating Molina’s life and music.
“Songs: Molina – A Memorial Electric Co.” will kick off on January 8th in Durham, North Carolina before swinging through Asheville, Indianapolis and finishing in Chicago. The final stop will be a special one for many Molina fans, as it’s where he recorded what many consider to be his finest album, Songs: Ohia’s Magnolia Electric Co. in 2003.
Magnolia Electric Co. was re-issued earlier this year. You can check out one of the album’s unreleased songs below.
