So far, Third Man Records’ partnership with Sun Records has already given us re-releases of some of Johnny Cash’s early work. Now, the label is set to re-release some of the greatest songs from rock ‘n’ roll’s early years, including one of Roy Orbison’s earliest hits and a Jerry Lee Lewis tune that everybody probably knows by now.
Among the singles being re-issued by Third Man is Roy Orbison’s “Rockhouse” b/w “You’re My Baby.” A prime slice of rockabilly, it’s an example of the kind of song that made Orbison into a star before his more orchestrated work in the early ’60s. There’s also D.A. Hunt’s “Lonesome Old Jail” b/w “Greyhound Blues,” one of the great lost blues classics appearing for the first time in a 7-inch format. Then, there’s Jerry Lee Lewis’ “Great Balls Of Fire” b/w “You Win Again,” which Third Man calls “one of our great American exports. “If you don’t already know this, that’s okay,” the Third Man folks say, “Just buy the record and no one will be the wiser.”
