Conor Oberst – the singer/songwriter behind Bright Eyes, Desaparecidos, the Mystic Valley Band, and a few other bands – is at work on a solo album. The as-of-yet untitled album is due out later this year.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Oberst talked about the process of writing the country-flavored album, which is being produced by Jonathan Wilson (Dawes, Father John Misty). Oberst found inspiration for the album in the various changes in his life: specifically, his marriage and his decision to settle down after an early career marked by his very prolific nature.
Oberst also made subtle changes to his style while working with Wilson, paring down on the verbose lyrics that were a trademark of his earlier albums. “I don’t relate to a lot of my earlier songs,” Oberst told RS. “They were extremely verbose. That might be cathartic when you’re doing it, but it doesn’t necessarily hold up.”
