While there hasn’t been any official confirmation, rumors are circulating that Jack White and Neil Young have recorded a covers album that is due out this year. The reports come from music journalist Michael Goldberg and Neil Young fansite Thrasher’s Wheat.
Young was spotted using Jack White’s recording booth at the Third Man Records store on Record Store Day last year, and fans have speculated that Young and White’s album was recorded in said booth. Young has been peppering his live sets with covers over the past year, including renditions of Bob Dylan’s “Blowin’ In The Wind” and Gordon Lightfoot’s “Early Morning Rain,” among others. According to Goldberg’s sources, both covers would appear on the album.
For his part, White has been coy about what his plans are for 2014, saying that he was working on two albums, one of which was his. At the time, it was speculated that White was hinting at a follow-up to his 2012 solo debut Blunderbuss, but this could be the album that he was talking about.
Representatives for Warner Bros. Records (Young’s label) have not commented on the rumors at this time.
