After a rainy, muddy mess of a time last year, the Governor’s Ball Festival in New York is setting its sights on a better 2014, and they’ve booked the lineup to prove it. Besides booking Vampire Weekend and OutKast (both of whom seem intent on headlining every festival this year), the Governor’s Ball folks are also bringing Jack White to Randall’s Island, and they scored a coup by coaxing the Strokes onto the stage.
White’s inclusion isn’t much of a surprise: the singer allegedly has a second solo album on the way, as well as a new album with the Dead Weather. The real surprise here is the Strokes, who haven’t played in their hometown since 2011. After the release of Comedown Machine last year, there was speculation of the band’s demise, and the band members themselves have been noncommittal about the band’s future.
Governor’s Ball will also feature a set from the Strokes’ lead singer Julian Casablancas, as well as Phoenix, Spoon, Interpol, Damon Albarn, Neko Case, Jason Isbell, Kurt Vile, Frank Turner, Kurt Vile, and more. Governor’s Ball takes place on June 6th-8th in New York City. You can check out the full lineup and purchase tickets here.
