Sad news from the Allman camp as guitarists Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks have announced that they will be leaving the Allman Brothers Band at the end of 2014. Both Haynes and Trucks plan to focus on their solo projects upon their departure from the band.
Haynes has been a pillar in the current incarnation of the Allman Brothers Band since 1989. While he spent three years away from the Allmans to focus on Gov’t Mule, he has been able to balance his Mule career with his Allman Brothers commitments for 13 years. Trucks, who joined in 1999, has since become regarded as one of the greatest young guitarists of his time. Along with his Allman career, Trucks has won accolades and Grammys for his work with wife Susan Tedeschi.
Haynes and Trucks’ departures come at a surprising time for the Allman Brothers Band, who are celebrating their 45th anniversary this year. The band have already announced the dates for their annual residency at the Beacon Theater, and they are expected to appear at a tribute concert in Gregg Allman’s honor on Friday.
