Acclaimed roots guitarist Damon Fowler released a new CD, Sounds of Home, Jan. 21, and will be playing at Rockwood Music Hall in New York City Feb. 12.
Sounds of Home was produced by award-winning swamp bluesman Tab Benoit, who also plays on several tracks. It was recorded at Whiskey Bayou Studio in Houma, La.
Fowler, who plays slide guitar, lap-steel and dobro, hails from Florida and was influenced by the region’s swamp blues, rock, sacred steel and country sounds. This is Fowler’s sixth studio album, and he wanted to change the tone of his music.
“”The older I get, the more I would like to bring positivity into it, so I tried to write more positive songs for this record, and you can feel it in the spirit of the record,” Fowler said.
Fowler’s extensive tour continues until April, with appearances down the East Coast, California and across the Midwest.
