Like the rest of his former compatriots in the legendary Sonic Youth, Lee Ranaldo has a fondness for throwing people for a loop. The guitarist made his name using feedback and noise to his will, but his new solo record with The Dust finds Ranaldo following a more conventional path. The avowed Deadhead’s new record meshes some of the best tropes of psychedelia with an uneasiness that gives Ranaldo’s songs depth and color. It’s the sort of music that’s made to be heard live and in person, and Brooklynites will have the opportunity to do just that at the Bell House. If you can brave the cold breezes coming off of the Gowanus Canal, this is not one to miss.
