There are jam bands, and then there’s what the Nick Moss Band does. While the group relies quite a bit on each individual member’s technical skill, there’s more to Nick Moss and his group than just pointless noodling. Moss is a consummate musician and a music lover, taking from roots, folk, country, and blues to create a synthesis of southern-fried rock that’s all too rare nowadays.
Time Ain’t Free, Moss’ tenth studio album, is a classic example of Moss’ sound. It’s a vintage, boogie-filled slice of rock & roll featuring Moss’ scintillating guitar playing and excellent backup work from new guitarist Michael Ledbetter. Six-string fans would do well to take notice of what Moss can do. The video preview for Time Ain’t Free keeps things simple: it’s just Moss and his band playing the song live. With a band like this, you don’t really need to do much else. Check it out below, and be sure to catch Moss and the boys when they play Mercury Lounge on March 29th.
