The long-awaited Jimi Hendrix biopic staring André 3000 of Outkast, All Is By My Side, is finally getting a US premiere at this year’s South By Southwest (SXSW) Film Festival in Austin, Texas.
The film, which covers Hendrix’s life before his fiery American debut at the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2013.
A Jimi Hendrix biopic had been in development since at least 2004, but numerous setbacks caused the nearly decade-long delay.
The litigious Hendrix estate did not allow any songs to be featured, however. In the film, Hendrix covers artists that influenced him, such as the Beatles and Muddy Waters.
All Is By My Side was written and directed by John Ridley, who most recently adapted the screenplay for 12 Years a Slave, for which he is nominated for an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay.
The SXSW Film Festival will take place March 7-15. The full lineup is available here.
