Whether he’s with the Old 97’s or on his own, Rhett Miller is a prolific man. The singer/songwriter/plain ol’ writer has a new album coming out with the 97’s called Most Messed Up, but there’s something special about Miller’s solo performances. As a solo artist, Miller sheds the rock ‘n’ roll trappings that define his band’s work for something more intimate, more subtle. It makes for some truly arresting, affecting performances, and we can only imagine that his show at City Winery next week will be just as good as he always is. If you’ve never had the chance to see Miller in person, head to this show. You won’t regret it.
