Indie jokester Mac DeMarco is growing up…sort of. Mac’s newest album, Salad Days, marks an impressive amount of growth for the singer-songwriter, even if his lackadaisical delivery is still reminiscent of a guy who’s most comfortable on the couch with a joint and a bag of Cheetos. As a musician and songwriter, though, few can match what Mac is doing right now, synthesizing Seventies pop-rock a la John Lennon and Donald Fagen with more recent, lo-fi sounds. Mac’s doing a two-night stay in New York this month; we’d recommend trying to get him at Baby’s All Right, Brooklyn’s newest music hotspot. Come for the cheap beer; stay for the awesome tunes.
