Legendary DJ and broadcaster Casey Kasem has reportedly gone missing. An investigation into his whereabouts has been launched by his wife Jean, who had been overseeing Kasem’s medical care after his diagnosis with Parkinson’s disease.
Kasem’s disappearance comes amid a dispute between Jean and Kasem’s children from another marriage, who allege that they have been denied access to their father while he has been undergoing treatment. Kasem’s daughter Kerri, who had been appointed temporary conservatorship of her father earlier in the year, believed that he had been taken to an Indian reservation in Washington State, but Jean Kasem believes that Casey has been taken out of the country entirely.
A legend in music and television, Casey Kasem first gained notoriety on radio as the host of two widely popular top 40 programs: “American Top 40” and “Casey’s Top 40.” He later moved into voiceover work, where he became well-known by kids all around the world as the voice of Shaggy from Scooby-Doo.
