The Foo Fighters have confirmed that they will be releasing a new album this year. The as-yet-untitled follow-up to Wasting Light will come out in the fall of this year to coincide with the premiere of lead Foo Dave Grohl’s new TV show.
The new show, which Grohl will be directing as well as producing, will follow the band across eight cities in the United States as they travel to eight different studios. Each session features a local musician sitting in with the band during the recording; so far, Cheap Trick and Joe Walsh are confirmed to be participating.
Grohl’s interest in the show was peaked after the singer/guitarist/drummer filmed the 2013 documentary Sound City about the Sound City recording studio in California. Inspired by revisiting his experiences at Sound City (where Nirvana recorded their breakthrough Nevermind), Grohl and the band found eight historic studios in Austin, Chicago, New York, Seattle, Nashville, New Orleans, Washington DC, and Los Angeles in which to record.
