Gregg Allman is one of the plaintiffs named in a lawsuit filed by the family of the film crew member killed in a train collision on the set of Midnight Rider. The film production company behind the film and the train company have also been named in the suit.
The suit, which was filed in the Chatham County court yesterday, claims negligence on the part of the producers of the film for using an unsafe work environment. As an executive producer for the film, Allman was named as a plaintiff alongside director Randall Miller and Unclaimed Freight Productions, the production company behind the film.
Midnight Rider was originally set to tell the life story of Gregg Allman from the perspective of both a young and old Gregg Allman throughout his career with the Allman Brothers Band. Production was stopped after Sarah Jones, 27, was killed by a freight train going through the set of the film in southeast Georgia. Police said that Miller and the production company did not have permission to shoot on the railroad tracks.
Allman has yet to comment on the lawsuit, but representatives for the singer said that he was distressed by the incident and that his association with the film had harmed his reputation.
