Bluesman Walter Trout is releasing a new album, The Blues Came Callin’, amid a recent health crisis that has resulting in an outpouring of support for the singer. In celebration of the album’s release, some of Trout’s friends will be gathering at the Iridium for a celebration of Trout’s contributions to music.
Veteran DJ and Elmore contributor Brian Cady will be emceeing the evening’s show, which will feature a backing band selected by Elmore executive director Arnie Goodman. The house band of Rocky Athas, Jeff Simon, and Scott Holt will back up a group of special guests that includes Joe Louis Walker, Jim Weider, and Jeff Simon. The show will also feature the world premiere of a brand-new documentary based on Trout’s life.
Trout, who was diagnosed with liver disease and was given 90 days to live back in March. After a fundraising drive that saw fans and friends give over $225,000 to help cover Walter’s medical expenses, a transplant match was found. Walter underwent surgery on May 26, and he is currently recuperating.
All of the proceeds from the Iridium show will go towards helping to cover Walter’s continuing medical expenses. You can watch the trailer for the documentary, also titled The Blues Came Callin’, below:
