Jack White is prepping to release his second solo album, Lazzaretto, in June, and White has been slowly rolling the album out song by song. So far, we’ve heard the instrumental “High Ball Stepper” and the record-breaking live version of the album’s title track. Those have hinted at a groove-laden, distorted sound for the album, but White’s latest song is a bit of a return to his roots.
Today, the singer premiered a third Lazzaretto track, “Just One Drink” on Rolling Stone‘s website. The song is a rollicking, bluesy, piano-driven number that has some of the spontaneity that permeated White’s work with the White Stripes. That could be due to the delightful backing vocals–probably done by a member of White’s all-female backing band, The Peacocks–which imply a mix of both Meg White and Holly Golightly. You can listen to the song here.
Lazzaretto comes out on June 10th via Columbia and Third Man Records. Tickets for White’s upcoming summer tour can be purchased here.
