Unless you keep up on the weird things that former child stars do because they’re probably bored, you may not have heard about the Pizza Underground, Macaulay Culkin’s band that exclusively plays pizza-themed covers of Velvet Underground stars. So yeah, they exist. This weekend, the band/colossal existential prank played at the Dot To Dot Festival in Nottingham, and things didn’t go particularly well.
According to a report in the Nottingham Post, Culkin was forced to end the farce early after the unruly audience started pelting the Home Alone star and his band with beer only two songs into the pizza-themed desecration of Lou Reed’s songwriting catalog. Culkin apparently tried to keep things light, saying that he would rather drink the beer being thrown at him, but he was ultimately forced to cut his set short.
British fans were, like most sane people, stupefied at what Culkin was doing. “It just sounds awful,” an unnamed fan told the Post. “It must go over well in America or something.”
Whether or not this does go over well in America (we certainly hope not), we know that…well, we’re not sure what we know anymore.
