Paul McCartney’s spacey new album New came out last year, but Macca is still going strong with a world tour and a strange, new video. The former Beatle premiered the clip for New cut “Appreciate” this morning, and the video premiered Paul’s latest guest star, Newman.
The video finds Newman patrolling a museum filled with human exhibits when he stumbles across McCartney, who comes to life and teaches the robot to cut loose. The concept of the video came to McCartney in a dream: “I woke up one morning with an image in my head of me standing next to a large robot,” McCartney said, “I thought it might be something I could use for the cover of my new album, but instead the idea turned out to be for the music video.”
The version of Newman in the video was designed by Significant Object, the design team behind the elaborate puppets for the hit play War Horse. A live-action version of Newman will accompany McCartney for his tour in Japan this week.
