In an interview with the BBC, Queen guitarist Brian May revealed that the band plan to release an album of songs using unreleased vocal tracks from Freddie Mercury. The album, which May tentatively titled Queen Forever, has no set release date yet.
In the interview, May revealed that he had recently discovered tapes of the band playing with Mercury from the 1980s, when the band had reached something of a commercial zenith. Only demos and song sketches were available for May and company to use, but the guitarist seemed confident that some studio work was all that was necessary to turn the songs into a full Queen album. The album would be the first release of new Queen material since 1995’s Made In Heaven, which also used unreleased Freddie Mercury vocals.
A new album isn’t the only Queen-releated project May is working on; the guitarist is also planning to produce a sequel to We Will Rock You, the hit musical based on the band’s songs. Queen will also be touring the United States this year with Adam Lambert filling in for Mercury.
