We hear the rumors every few years: Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Paul Jones, and most likely Jason Bonham are always allegedly a massive paycheck away from touring as Led Zeppelin for one last hurrah. There was already a failed attempt to make the tour happen back in 2007, after the four reunited to play the O2 Arena in London. However, if Robert Plant has his way, that will be the last time anyone sees Led Zeppelin onstage.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Plant spoke adamantly against bringing Zeppelin back together under any circumstances. “I don’t think there’s any reason for me to do that,” he said. Plant added that he wasn’t interested in dealing with “the menagerie of vested interests” and said that a Led Zeppelin tour would be “the very essence of everything that’s shitty about about big-time stadium rock.” He drove the point home by adding, “I’m not a fucking jukebox!”
Plant’s opinions contrast starkly to those of his former bandmate Page, who thought that a reunion tour was almost a foregone conclusion in 2007. “You’ll have to ask Robert why he changed his mind,” Page said. “I don’t know if he ever considered it. I don’t know what he thinks.”
In the meantime, Zeppelin fans can get their fix with the upcoming release of new archival recordings to coincide with the reissues of the band’s first two albums due out later this year.
