Just because the Flaming Lips are going through a messy separation with their drummer doesn’t mean they haven’t forgotten about making music. The Oklahoma-based psych-rock band are coming back with another collaborative covers album, this time tackling the Beatles classic Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.
The album, titled With A Little Help From My Fwendz, will feature the Lips collaborating with several special guests on the album’s 13 songs. Not much else has been revealed about the guests at this point, but we do know that pop star Miley Cyrus will be on the album’s version of “Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds,” which she recently performed with lead Lip Wayne Coyne in concert. The recorded version of the song is available for download for anyone who pre-orders the album on iTunes.
This isn’t the Lips’ first go-round with covering a full album; they’ve taken on Pink Floyd’s Dark Side Of The Moon twice (most recently this year), and they released their take on the Stone Roses’ self-titled debut album last year.
