Jeff Tweedy is going solo. The Wilco frontman has announced that he is at work on his debut solo album, which will come out later this year. Tweedy will also be hitting the road for a solo tour leading up to his performance at the Newport Folk Festival this year.
Aside from that, precious little is known about what the album will entail or what Wilco’s current status is. Of course, fans going to see Tweedy live should probably expect to hear a few new solo tunes sprinkled in with his usual collection of Wilco and Uncle Tupelo songs. This will be the first Tweedy solo tour to feature a full backing band; Tweedy will be joined by his son Spencer on drums, guitarist Jim Elkington, bassist Darin Gray, and keyboardist Liam Cunningham.
