Jeff Tweedy is taking a break from Wilco to release a new solo project. The first album from Tweedy’s project, Sukierae, is due out September 16th on Wilco’s own dBpm label.
To get the album finished, Tweedy called on someone special to play drums: his 18 year-old son Spencer. The two banged out 20 songs for the album, and they’ll also be going on tour this year.
“When I set out to make this record, I imagined it being a solo thing, but not in the sense of one guy strumming an acoustic guitar and singing,” Tweedy said in a press release. “Solo to me meant that I would do everything – write the songs, play all the instruments and sing.” Of course, the project grew from there as Tweedy ended bringing his son into the studio, as well as a few special guests.
