Talk about a flood after a drought. Prince is returning with two new albums after signing a contract with Warner Bros. this year: a solo album and a record with his band 3rd Eye Girl. Neither album has a release date yet, but the Purple One has confirmed that both albums are completed and ready to go.
In an interview with the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, Prince said that the new records came about after he felt that he had enough songs to release as a cohesive statement; he had previous put out singles with 3rd Eye Girl, but it took a while for an album to materialize. “I’ve finally got something that is a cohesive statement,” Prince told reporters.
Even if we don’t hear any new Prince songs, the singer/guitarist isn’t staying quiet in 2014. A long-overdue deluxe reissue of his 1984 masterpiece, Purple Rain, is due out later this year.
