Burger Records doesn’t seem like the kind of label that would sign a vintage soul singer, but there’s a lot about Curtis Harding that’s unexpected. The Atlanta soul singer has found himself at both ends of the musical spectrum over the years, from working as Cee Lo Green’s backup singer to touring with garage-rock maniacs The Black Lips. Harding is a wanderer, a traveler, and that aspect of his life is readily apparent on his new album Soul Power. 2014 is poised to be a breakout year for Harding, and the always fickle Manhattan crowd are going to get a taste of him as he heads to the Mercury Lounge. If anyone can win over the hearts of New Yorkers, it’s Harding.
