A Keith Urban concert in Mansfield, Massachusetts turned sour this weekend after dozens of concertgoers had to undergo medical treatment for excessive consumption of alcohol. 46 fans were treated, 22 of whom had to be taken to local hospitals. According to a joint statement released by the area’s police and fire departments, emergency personnel from five nearby communities were called in to help deal with the crowd.
In a report from the Boston Herald, Mansfield Fire Chief Neil Boldrighini said that over 50 people had to be taken into protective custody for “alcohol-related issues.” Authorities say that fans were passing out and injuring themselves at the venue.
Urban, for his part, did not comment on the incident, and it’s possible that he may not have been made aware of what happened. A tweet from @KeithUrban immediately after the show thanked fans for coming out. Urban’s tour wraps up on September 13th, after which he will resume his gig as a judge on American Idol.
