Conor Oberst is out on the road behind what many are calling his best album in years, Upside Down Mountain. Now, the folk singer is back with a strange, affecting new video for the Mountain track “You Are Your Mother’s Child.”
Filmed on Fire Island in New York, the video recalls childhood innocence as it follows the adventures of two children in domestic bliss and imaginative wilderness adventures akin to Where The Wild Things Are. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Oberst described the song as being inspired by his wife and the touring he did in his younger years. “She’s a reason to go home,” he said. “So much of my younger life was devoted to endless tours and a frantic need to create. But maybe I don’t need to chase every ambition.”
Oberst is currently on the road with Dawes. L.A. fans will get a special treat in October when he stops at the Greek Theater for a show with folk legend John Prine.
