The Mavericks came back in a big way with their 2013 album In Time, their first album in ten years. According to band leader Raul Malo, they have no intent of stopping any time soon. In fact, their next album is already in the can.
“We just finished recording a new album that will be out next year,” Malo told Rolling Stone in an interview. “The circle continues. We have had a great run and it continues to get better and we’re having more fun than ever before.” As with In Time, the untitled new album was produced by Malo and Niko Bolas, and it will be released via the Big Machine Label Group.
Even with the band’s considerable legacy, Malo considers himself lucky to get a record deal at such a turbulent time in the music industry. “I know a lot of people have a hard time imagining this, but it’s not the easiest thing to get these days, to be able to make records and have a record contract,” Malo says.
