Catherine Russell has had music around her for her entire life. Her father, Luis Russell, was Louis Armstrong’s bandleader, and her mother is a bassist who has played with the likes of Wynton Marsalis. Over the course of her career, Russell herself has worked with everyone from Paul Simon and David Bowie to Madonna and Rosanne Cash. However, it’s her own work as a jazz vocalist that has us really excited for this show. Her latest album, Bring It Back, is an excellent piece of throwback jazz that few people, if any, would have the courage to make these days.
