For now, it seems like The Libertines are committed to a full-fledged reunion, with some massive shows under their belt and a tentative reunion album in the works. That album could end up getting better as, according to Pete Doherty, Jack White has offered to lend his talents as a producer for the project.
Doherty told a French radio station (via DIY Mag) that White had expressed interest in working on the album, which is tentatively slated for release in 2015. “Jack White said he’d do it,” Doherty claimed, but he hedged his bets a bit about the all-star collaboration, saying “I don’t want to get too hopeful.” In the past, White has produced everyone from Loretta Lynn and Wanda Jackson to The Von Bondies and The Raconteurs. Still, even with everyone in the Libertines cleaned up (allegedly), we can imagine that this record would be a bit of a challenge.
Since their reunion was announced, The Libertines have kept their future plans under wraps. The band have only announced a ten-date European tour so far, and not much has been said about the album other than that it will be released in 2015. Co-founder Carl Barat, for his part, has been adamant that that last part will happen.
