This year’s CBGBs Festival is going to be a celebration of anniversaries, it seems. The New York-based fest is returning for another year of music and film, and its early lineup includes a legendary band celebrating a birthday of sorts. Alt-rock pioneers Jane’s Addiction top a bill that includes the likes of Devo, Billy Idol, and Duff McKagan, among others.
The fest will be a big one for Jane’s Addiction, who are celebrating the 25th anniversary of their debut album Nothing’s Shocking. It remains to be seen whether or not the band will commemorate that with any sort of special performance, but CBGBs Fest seems like the best time to do it. Devo will also have a reason to celebrate, as they will be premiering a new documentary, Hardcore Devo Live, at the film portion of the festival.
The music lineup so far also includes We Are Scientists, Macy Gray, Surfer Blood, and many more. From experience, we’d recommend Baby Acid and The Montauk Project as our top picks for bands that you may not have heard of yet. The film portion of the festival also features a new documentary about the Carter and Cash families, as well as a 30th anniversary screening of the greatest mockumentary (rockumentary, if you will) of all time: This Is Spinal Tap.
CBGBs Festival takes place on October 8th through 12th all over New York City. For more information, visit the CBGBs website.
