This September will be filled with tributes to the late George Harrison. Not only are his first six solo albums getting reissued in a remastered, deluxe package, but some of music’s biggest stars will also be paying tribute to his life and work at the El Rey Theatre later this month. The concert, which will feature an equal selection of Harrison’s contemporaries and artists who followed him, will be held as a benefit for Sweet Relief, a charity that helps struggling musicians.
The bill features artists like Brian Wilson, Norah Jones, the Killers’ Brandon Flowers, the Flaming Lips’ Wayne Coyne and Steven Drozd, Spoon’s Britt Daniel, and Heart’s Ann Wilson, among others. Members of Weezer, The Cult, The Strokes, and Velvet Revolver will also be performing, and Harrison’s son Dhani is also scheduled to appear. The event’s organizers have also promised some surprise guests…perhaps one of Harrison’s old bandmates?
Tickets go on sale today. For more information, visit the El Rey’s website. The Dhani-curated box set of George Harrison’s solo albums comes out on September 23rd.
