Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke has released an unannounced album, Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes, available exclusively on BitTorrent.
A cryptic, bizarre press release from Yorke and producer Nigel Godrich stated, “It’s an experiment to see if the mechanics of the system are something that the general public can get its head around … If it works well it could be an effective way of handing some control of internet commerce back to people who are creating the work. Enabling those people who make either music, video or any other kind of digital content to sell it themselves. Bypassing the self elected gate-keepers.”
Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes features eight tracks and is available for download here for $6 (or you can purchase the vinyl.) There is a free song and video download for “A Brain In A Bottle,” which makes the listener feel like they’re being brain-washed (in the best possible way.) The video exposes Yorke’s face at hundreds of different angles and the trippy camerawork corresponds the song’s hyperphysical sounds.
