TV On The Radio are returning after a three-year hiatus with a new album, Seeds, later this year. This morning, the band gave us a taste of what’s to come with the video for their new single “Happy Idiot.”
The video stars Paul Reubens (Pee-Wee Herman to most of you) as a pensive race car driver honing his craft on a deserted track. As he drives, he begins seeing visions of Guardians Of The Galaxy star Karen Gillan as various people, as well as the band in white suits. Is he going crazy? Probably, but that’s the fun of it all.
Singer Tunde Adebimpe had the idea for the video for quite some time: “I had this idea for the video that I thought would never happen, of Paul Reubens as a race car driver who slowly loses his mind. I got to speak with him over the phone about doing it, and in between being blindingly nervous that I was talking to an actor who had shaped a LOT of my worldview and trying not to freak him out by saying so, he mentioned that he had been a fan of the band for a while. He liked the idea, and somehow here we are with Paul as a race car driver who slowly loses his mind.”
You can watch the video below, via Funny Or Die. Seeds comes out on November 18th.
