Late Summer Roundup: Rock ‘N’ Blues Fest / Bergen PAC / Englewood, NJ / August 8th

With Labor Day come and gone, join Elmore in our Late Summer Roundup, a look back at some of late summer’s finest musical moments.

The music world lost a legend with the passing of Johnny Winter. Winter was scheduled to be the headliner at the Bergen Performing Arts Center on August 8th, but, following his death, the show became a tribute to Winter, featuring his brother Edgar, Vanilla Fudge, Peter Rivera (formerly of Rare Earth) and Savoy Brown’s Kim Simmonds playing some of their greatest hits as well as selections from Johnny Winter’s catalog.

The evening started with Simmonds playing “Going To The Delta” followed by “Cobra,” “Ain’t Nothin Like The Blues,” “Poor Girl,” and “Tell Mama.” Vanilla Fudge then played some of their greatest hits, including “Take Me for a Little While,” “People Get Ready,” “Shotgun” (featuring a drum solo) and “You Keep Me Hangin’ On.” Songs dedicated to Johnny Winter included “Highway 61 Revisited” by Edgar Winter and Kim Simmonds. Finally, the evening ended on a high note with “Jumping Jack Flash” played by Edgar Winter with members of Vanilla Fudge and Rivera.
