Phish did it, Metallica did, and now it appears that it’s Bon Iver’s turn to make a music festival. The indie-folk group’s mastermind Justin Vernon has teamed up with the producers of the Boston Calling Festival to start the Eaux Claire Music & Arts Festival. The inaugural run of the festival will take place in Eaux Clare, Wisconsin in July of 2015.
The festival organizers are aiming to have 25,000 attendees to the first fest. The location is described as a remote area where the organizers plan to set up two stages and a 6,000-person tent. All of the performers would be selected by Vernon, who chose the location to bring attention and revenue to his hometown.
Artist-curated festivals have become popular in recent years to varying degrees of success. Metallica were forced to cancel their Orion Music + More festival after only two years, but The National’s Boston Calling Festival has grown enough to have both May and September installments this year.
