This year, Led Zeppelin are undertaking a massive archival project with the re-release of the band’s first five albums. The last two albums in the series, Led Zeppelin IV and Houses Of The Holy, are coming out on October 28th, and they both feature unreleased material hand-picked and remastered by Jimmy Page. Today, Page gave listeners a sneak preview of what’s to come with an alternate version of the band’s most iconic song.
The new version of “Stairway To Heaven” featured on the Led Zeppelin IV reissue finds the song arranged in a more subdued fashion. The softer aspects of the song’s beginning are brought to the forefront, owing a bit more to the folk explorations on the previous album than the louder, more rocking version we all know and love. You can listen to the alternate version of “Stairway To Heaven” now, via Consequence Of Sound.
