In the past few years, Morrissey has become notorious for cancelling tours for his ongoing health issues, but we’ve never gotten an insight as to exactly what the singer was dealing with. In a recent interview with Spanish newspaper El Mundo (translated in The Guardian), Morrissey opened up about some of the health struggles he has gone through in the past few years, including four separate cancer scares.
Predictably, Morrissey was somewhat blasé about his treatments. “If I die, then I die,” he said. “And if I don’t, then I don’t. Right now, I feel good. I am aware that in some of my recent photos I look somewhat unhealthy, but that’s what illness can do. I’m not going to worry about that, I’ll rest when I’m dead.” Doctors have asked Morrissey to cease touring altogether, something that he’s reluctant to do: “It’s difficult for me [to stop] because it’s very ingrained within me.”
In the meantime, Morrissey has kicked off his tour of Europe in support of the now-labelless new album World Peace Is None Of Your Business. In case you were wondering if he held any grudges over how the album was handled by former label Harvest Records, Morrissey and his band reportedly wore “Fuck Harvest” shirts at the tour’s opening gig in Lisbon.
