Sleater-Kinney are back. The Washington-based trio, who went on an indefinite hiatus in 2005, have reunited and are releasing a new album, No Cities To Love, on January 20th via Sub Pop Records.
Rumors of the band’s reunion started earlier this year, and they picked up speed over the weekend when the band released a new song, “Bury Your Friends” in anticipation of a new career-spanning box set. As it turns out, that wasn’t the end of things for Corin Tucker, Carrie Brownstein, and Janet Weiss. Though the trio split in 2006, they had been participating in secret recording sessions this year in anticipation of ending their hiatus.
Since playing their last show in 2006, the members of Sleater-Kinney found success with other projects: Tucker released a few solo albums, and Brownstein and Weiss released an album with Wild Flag. Brownstein also gained an amount of mainstream success as the star of Portlandia alongside Fred Armisen.
