Brooklyn-based Americana singer/songwriter Michaela Anne was once a jazz student, unhappy with the genre, and armed with a passion for Otis Redding and Patsy Cline.
Combining these influences and more together, Anne’s new album, Ease My Mind, is classically Americana; honest stories of love, work and the complicated relationship with oneself. These are romantic songs of disappointment and life lessons, written by Anne herself, sung softly in a sweet soprano. It’s an emotional album, instantly striking a chord with anyone who has experienced heartbreak. Despite its candid darkness, Ease My Mind is an enchanting musical sidekick for any woman alone on a highway, searching for her freedom.
The album’s title track draws from Nashville’s classic country heritage, telling the story of a modern woman, set against an old country snare beat. The video has a wonderful vintage feel. “I wanted it to visually reflect the sentiment of the song. I just moved to Nashville so this past summer was my last summer in the city and the video was a love letter of sorts,” explains Anne. We see her exploring New York City on the train, wandering around Brooklyn and playing her acoustic guitar with the company of friends and family at Brooklyn’s Fort Tilden beach.
