For the last quarter century, the Jazz Foundation of America has provided aid for elderly jazz and blues musicians in need, including those displaced by Hurricanes Katrina and Sandy. For the last dozen years, much of the organization’s support and visibility has come from their annual “A Great Night in Harlem” benefit gala. This year, the stars in attendance will be as bright as ever. Presenters and performers including Quincy Jones, Bruce Willis, Chaka Khan, Charles Bradley and Questlove will converge on Harlem’s historic Apollo Theater this Friday to support the cause and pay tribute to this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award winner, Herbie Hancock.
