It’s safe to say that Janis Joplin has one of the more interesting life stories in rock music. Now, after a long gestation period, Joplin’s story seems poised to finally hit the big screen, and a story in The Hollywood Reporter states that Academy Award-nominated actress Amy Adams is set to play Joplin.
Adams was originally rumored to be playing Joplin in the movie–now titled Get It While You Can–all the way back in 2010, but the film went through several delays and director changes until recently, when Dallas Buyers Club director Jean-Marc Vallée entered negotiations to direct the film. Screenwriters Craig Bourten and Melissa Wallack, who both co-wrote Dallas Buyers Club, are also being courted to re-write Teresa Kounin Kerry’s original script.
Joplin’s life story has had a troubled trip to the big screen: producer Peter Newman spent 15 years trying to get Joplin, a screenplay written by former Rolling Stone scribe David Dalton, turned into a feature film, with Zooey Deschanel, Pink, Lili Taylor, and Nina Arianda all attached to play Joplin at some point. Newman’s film is still listed as being “in development.”
Get It While You Can is set to start shooting in the second half of 2015.
