In 2012, a film based on the careers of Joni Mitchell, Carole King, and Carly Simon was set to hit the big screen with pop sensation Taylor Swift playing a young Joni. The film, titled Girls Like Us, was set to start filming last year, but the project never got off the ground. In a recent interview with The Sunday Times, Mitchell revealed that she blocked the film from happening.
“I squelched that,” Mitchell said of the film (via NME). “I said to the producer, ‘All you’ve got is a girl with high cheekbones.’ It’s just a lot of gossip. You don’t have the great scenes.”
The “lot of gossip” could refer to the source material, Sheila Weller’s book of the same name. “There’s a lot of nonsense about me in those books,” Mitchell said. “Assumptions, assumptions, assumptions.”
Mitchell recently released a new, four-disc compilation called Love Has Many Faces, which is available now. Mitchell’s last album Shine came out in 2007.
