Steve Earle has been on something of a hot streak with several excellent albums, and he’s going to keep things rolling next year. The singer/songwriter is planning to release another album, titled Terraplane, on February 17th via New West Records.
Recorded with his backing band The Dukes–with whom Earle recorded his last album The Low Highway—Terraplane takes its name from a 1930s car model and, more importantly, from Robert Johnson’s “Terraplane Blues.” Earle has hinted that Terraplane would find him exploring the bluesier side of his work. “For my part, I’ve only ever believed two things about the blues,” Earle wrote in the Terraplane liner notes, “one, that they are very democratic, the commonest of human experience, perhaps the only thing that we all truly share and two, that one day, when it was time, I would make this record.”
