The Yeah Yeah Yeahs have remained surprisingly quiet as a group since releasing their album Mosquito last year. According to lead singer Karen O, that silence is set to continue for a little while longer. In an interview with the NME, the singer confirmed that the band “is on a bit of a hiatus” with no plans to record any time soon.
Karen O was quick to say that the band weren’t breaking up, but they also weren’t going to force themselves into making another record. “We have to wait to get that urge, get that itch,” the singer said. “The time needs to be right and we’re OK with waiting for that, I think.”
In the interview, O also took the time to dispel some of the rumors about rifts in the band (allegedly the inspiration for her solo album Crush Songs) while promising that the band would get back together. “It’ll be like muscle memory, this unspoken thing between the three of us where it all just… locks in,” she said.
