10,000 Maniacs pretty much wrote the book on alternative rock in America. Along with other pioneers like R.E.M. and the B-52s, 10,000 Maniacs introduced a new kind of sound into record stores and on to college radio stations, one that stood in stark contrast to the bombastic arena hits that were dominating mainstream radio at the time. 30 years later, they’ve attained a legendary status among fans of underground music, and they can still bring it when they hit the stage.
