The new trailer for forthcoming Brian Wilson biopic Love & Mercy features Paul Dano as the Beach Boys leader in his heyday and John Cusack as Wilson in the present day. The trailer, which also features Elizabeth Banks as Wilson’s wife Melinda Ledbetter, provides glimpses of Wilson’s legendary musical triumphs and personal struggles.
Love & Mercy is directed by Bill Pohlad and written by Michael A. Lerner and Oren Moverman. Moverman also co-wrote the screenplay for Todd Haynes’s unusual Bob Dylan film I’m Not There. The film covers Wilson’s famed struggles with mental illness–Paul Giamatti plays Dr. Eugene Landy, a psychiatrist who treated and ultimately exploited Wilson in the 1970s and 1980s–and his latter day discovery of peace and stability.
