Coming off the heels of a Talking Heads co-sign is San Francisco rock band Matt Jaffe & The Distractions with “Put Your Finger In The Socket.” Though Jaffe is just 19-years-old, he has already made a name for himself in the northern California rock scene. Jaffe & The Distractions proudly wear their influences on their sleeves, featuring the rock sensibility of the Clash with the memorable songwriting and tone of Elvis Costello. On “Put Your Finger In The Socket,” Jaffe manages to reinforce why this vintage sound is back in the limelight while simultaneously adding his own modern spin to the genre.
The video compliments the song by adding in retro graphics that further exhibit Jaffe’s soft spot for ’80s pop rock. Just when it seems as though the love song has become a cliché this new track breathes life into the subject. The group has teamed with producer Matthew King Kaufman (Jonathan Richman, Greg Kihn) and will be releasing their debut in 2015. Take a listen to “Put Your Finger In The Socket” and be sure to check out their upcoming release later this year.
